By VIA on Wed, September 27, 2017
VIA has added or improved nearly 1,000 shelters throughout the service area, including 30 solar-powered shelters, to make stops safer and more comfortable for customers. An additional 200 solar-powered shelters will be installed in 2018, bringing the total number of sheltered stops in the VIA service area to more than 2,800.
By the end of 2017, more than 90 percent of boardings will occur at a sheltered stop.
Improvements to existing stops include additional lighting, digital displays with route information, new seating, easier access to the stop, an updated design for easy care, and maintenance.
Shelter designs accommodate different accessibility needs and reflect historic or cultural markers of the area.
